After work

Got home after working a Sunday shift and B.P. immediately laid down next to me like this...kitty cuddles even make working a weekend okay.

I just had two slices of Papa Murphy's pizza covered liberally in hot red pepper flakes, and I can actually feel the pepper burning through my stomach lining...just the way I like it :) My lips are actually burning a little too.

I've recently been in a phone-obsessed state, as it's apparently time for me to upgrade from my Nokia N8 to something with a better keyboard. Yes, truthfully, if the N8 just had a better keyboard I would stick with it, as I prefer Symbian far and above any of the currently available mobile operating systems.

Reasons that the N8 is awesome:
1. 12 mp camera
The N8 came out in 2009, when the iphone was still at 5 mp, and android barely 8 mp. There's very few options even now that compete with the N8's camera, both in terms of megapixels and software.  Possible options: Sony Xperia Z (but I've already had a short, bad experience with an Xperia a few years ago), and some of the current Nokia Lumias.

2. super stable...no problems, and Symbian Belle is fairly fast with very little lag.

3. Great battery life, don't have to charge every night.
Battery life on newer phones frustrates me because people have gotten so used to bad battery life that nowadays even phone reviewers will just give a phone a good score for battery life if it lasts through the day with moderate use. I remember when I used to be able to charge my phone about once a week.

4. Symbian doesn't try to prevent file-sharing.
iOS and Windows Phone make it very difficult to file-share through bluetooth or usb, for anti-piracy reasons, I'm assuming, even though Windows Phone's excuse is that the system stays more stable by not giving the user access to system files...ok well what about my own files that i have saved on my sd card? In the end, it's all about these companies trying to control what I do with my own device and the files I own. Android doesn't do this, but the disorganization of it's file managing system and generic UI just does not appeal to me. Symbian gave me tons of freedom, while keeping the files organized, and the system stayed stable.

Reasons that I'm ready to get a different phone:
1. The keyboard!! I literally cannot type on it. I actually almost got a Blackberry Q10 because I was so sick of the whole touch screen keyboard thing, but the dealbreaker there is the camera shutter sound on Blackberrys can't be removed. I spent about 72 hours figuring out how to hack the N8 to get rid of that shutter sound, but there is no hack for the Blackberry Q10. I must take pictures of the animals sleeping, and the shutter sound gives me away...also that sound is just jarring.

2. Apps
Actually the apps thing is not really a dealbreaker, I have the ones I can't live without, but I have to admit they do provide a mild advantage when comparing the N8 to Android or even Windows Phone.

Anyways, I am currently trying out Windows Phone on a Nokia Lumia 521 that I got off ebay for cheap...I like the tiles home page, I like the relative app riches (when compared to symbian, WP has a lot of apps), and I love the keyboard. The keyboard's still not as good as a physical, but good enough. The only thing I absolutely hate is the lack of a file manager and the ability for apps to access files stored on the phone. Everything is cloud-driven, and it's obnoxious. The storage for each app is separate. For example, I have a ton of ebooks saved on my sd card, which is inserted in the phone. I downloaded a bunch ebook reader apps, and none of them can access the ebooks on the sd card. I had to upload the ebooks to skydrive, then get on the phone and download the files into the ereader apps. For each app. Even though one app had all my books, I had to download the books to the other apps as well, using up more memory on the phone.

Frustration. It feels like the more technology advances, the more ways people think of to cripple it.

Anyways, notice I have not mentioned the iphone. It just bores me. I haven't even ever had one and I'm bored by it...

Maybe I should wait for Jolla?
